Mission & Interests
Goals: The mission of the EWE Foundation is to promote and facilitate the use of European wool for fiber craft activities such as therapeutic knitting in health and social sectors. Our objective is to encourage the exchange of information, knowledge and skills in this field as well as to develop and implement joint initiatives.
EWE is the bridge between wool breeders, processors and end users, with a particular focus on using European wool to improve wellbeing. Establishing, and growing a circular economy for wool, connects end users back to the sheep, farmers and origins of the products they enjoy.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: The EU Parliament produced a resolution where it recognises that wool is a sustainable, renewable and biodegradable resource for the textile sector, and calls on the Commission to devote more attention to the wool production and processing sector, for an in-depth study of market outlets to provide a greater economic return to producers; to support the implementation of programmes for the exchange of information and good practices among participants in the wool processing chain, and some other supporting measures, and finally urges the Commission to look into the possibility of making exceptions for wool when applying the current regulation, given that it is not a product for human consumption.

Also, there was a Parliamentary question on the subject (attached) and there was an answer from the Commission reaffirming the current situation based (in our opinion) on weak and unconvincing arguments.

with more than 100 million sheep in the EU, mostly bred for their meat and milk (halloumi cheese, Pag cheese and pecorino) we need a plan for their wool, now that the textile sector does not want it anymore because it is easier and cheaper to use synthetic fibres.
