Mission & Interests
Goals: The European Society for Soil Conservation is an interdisciplinary, non-political association with members from over 30 countries. Its members include researchers, teachers, students, farmers, planners and policymakers with interests in agriculture, soil science, geographical science, economics, forestry, ecology.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: The ESSC participated in the EU Roadmap: New Soil Strategy - healthy soil for a healthy life;
The ESSC has promoted the public consultation on: Biodiversity Strategy on 2030 to develop the new EU Soil Strategy.
Moreover, after the withdrawal of the ‘Soil Thematic Strategy’ by the European Commission, the ESSC prepared a ‘Soil Petition.’ At the end of September 2014, the Petition, including the signatures of the President of each EU National Soil Science Society representing over 10,000 Soil Scientists, was sent to the Ministers of Agriculture and Environment of each EU Country. The Petition was also sent to the Presidents of the ‘Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development’ and the ‘Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety’ of the EU.
Communication Activities: The ESSC wishes to rapidly disseminate information to its members. These could include searches for potential collaborators for research proposals, calls for research proposals, job opportunities, opportunities for research studentships and other items or important information for rapid dissemination. The ESSC distributes information via ESSC Newsletters.
