Mission & Interests
Goals: The European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) is an international non-profit association (association international sans but lucratif, AISBL) registered in Belgium. Our membership is composed of not-for-profit organizations working on all aspects of public health. We disseminate information to our members on health-related EU policy and legislative initiatives.
EPHA's mission is to bring together the public health community to provide thought leadership and facilitate change; to build public health capacity to deliver equitable solutions to European public health challenges, to improve health and reduce health inequalities.
Our vision is of a Europe with universal good health and well-being, where all have access to a sustainable and high quality health system: A Europe whose policies and practices contribute to health, both within and beyond its borders.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: Under the EU Treaty, the EU can take action to protect and improve public health, prevent diseases, and identify (cross-border) threats to human health, while fully respecting the responsibilities of the Member States for the organisation and delivery of health services and health care.
EPHA’s advocacy for better health in Europe spans the entire public health spectrum and hence all policies that affect the social, economic, environmental, commercial, digital, and political determinants of health.
The activities are divided into seven thematic policy clusters. These clusters align with European and international public health policy priorities and combine interrelated projects, or campaigns, in a way that facilitates engagement with EPHA’s members.
- Healthy environments
- Healthcare delivery
- Health equity
- Health Systems and Economy
- Global Public Health
- Digital Transformation
- Politics and Health
Communication Activities: In line with the abovementioned seven thematic policy clusters, our current policy priorities include:
Public health, healthy environments, non-communicable diseases, mental health, nutrition and food systems, healthcare delivery, access to medicines, pandemic preparedness, universal health coverage, health equity, racism and discrimination, Roma health, early childhood development, health systems and economy, health workforce, global public health, air pollution, climate change, digital transformation, (digital) health literacy, politics and health.
