Mission & Interests

Goals: a) to promote the fundamental rights and fundamental freedoms in the armed forces of the countries of Europe; b) to promote European social policy so as to include military personnel; c) to promote the general, non-material, social and professional interests of active and former military personnel, their families and surviving dependents; d) to represent the interests of the member associations vis-à-vis supranational institutions and authorities, and to support them in matters of their concern within their national sphere; e) to cooperate with other international organisations and trade unions provided that this is in the interest of EUROMIL; f) to foster the regular exchange of experience between the member associations; g) to promote understanding and friendship between the member associations

Main EU Legislative Proposals: * Directive 2003/88/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 November 2003 concerning certain aspects of the organisation of working time * Directive (EU) 2019/1152 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union * Directive (EU) 2019/1937 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2019 on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law * Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on adequate minimum wages in the European Union * Council Directive on implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation * Communication “A strong social Europe for just transitions” * Communication “A Union of Equality: Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025” and Pay Transparency * European Defence Union * Conference on the Future of Europe * Multiannual Financial Framework * The Strategic Compass * EU-NATO cooperation EUROMIL participated in several consultations of the European Commission.
Communication Activities: Surveys on recruitment of foreign citizens in European Armed Forces, the increased defence spending, and Gender Equality in the Armed Forces. Suicide Rates in the Armed Forces. On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the Strategic Compass, EUROMIL launched a Q&A series, entitled “Did the Strategic [Com]pass muster?”. Each week during the month of March (and the first week of April) we published on our website the written 1-2 pages interview. The interviewees are the Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Robert Brieger, Member of the European Parliament Michael Gahler, Elena Lazarou in cooperation with Sebastian Clapp from the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), Constantinos Hadjisavvas (European Defence Agency), Petros Fassoulas (EMI). EUROMIL’s office worked on its actions concerning the upcoming European Elections (2024) with a series of articles covering EUROMIL’s working areas and interests entitled “For a more inclusive Europe for military personnel”. The campaign will be constituted of 8 articles covering the following topics: − Protection of social and working rights of military personnel when trained and deployed together − Adequate equipment and training to deal with emerging threats and challenges, as climate change − Timely implementation of the Strategic Compass − Common military culture − Gender equality and diversity in the Armed Forces − Working Time Directive − Social Policy − Mental Health: inclusion of military personnel EUROMIL's President visited Kyiv at two occasions.

Organisation Members: EUROMIL is participating in the Fundamental Rights Platform (FRP) of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). The organisation has participatory status with the Council of Europe (CoE) and consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). EUROMIL also maintains contacts with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Additionally, EUROMIL is a member of the European Movement International (EMI), Friends of Europe and the Kangaroo Group.
