Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: We follow the youth-related topics such as the EU youth strategy, Horizon 2020, Youth Employment initiative etc.
We also have ongoing working groups and campaigns related to free trade, migration, fighting populism, minority rights, education and defence. Lately, we have been especially active on the topics of banning unpaid internships and the European Youth Test/Check initiative.
Moreover, we are influencing specific legislative files debated and voted upon in the European Parliament. We represent thereby the position of our members and deliver on the advocacy work.
We mainly influence our MEPs in the Renew Europe Group with whom we have regular meetings and contacts, often in the European Parliament itself.
The latest actions we have been leading were focused on EU Diplomacy - Foreign affairs related files where we shared with the Renew AFET committee members our proposals for the external relations of the EU as part of a publication on the topic. We organised several meetings with them so our policy proposals could be channelled in the decision-making process.
We also launched a campaign to ban unpaid internship and therefore reached out to our MEPs when the vote took place on the resolution on youth unemployment presented by MEP Dragos Pislaru, a couple of weeks ago. No work should be unpaid and we made our voice heard in the interest of the European youth when the Parliament was adopting this key resolution. We will work with Renew MEPS on upcoming work, employment and youth related files as well.
In general, we bring the voices of young liberals to the decision-makers and mobilise our resources on files close to their/our priorities. This year being the 'Year of the Youth' we plan to be even more proactive and plan to influence the agenda on several topics. Not only have we put forward proposals on institutional reform during the Conference on the Future of Europe but we do want to shape the legislative processes in the upcoming digital, environment and rule of law related files.
Finally, we also attempt to channel the voices of young people in light of the war in Ukraine. We sent out several communications and met several decision-makers to bring proposals on the way forward and how to have an impact on the ground for the young people of Ukraine. We have a key role to play on the longer-term perspectives and we aim at having the decision-makers on board to enable a sustainable support to those in needs.
