Mission & Interests
Goals: Founded in 2000, European Judicial Training Network, is the principal platform and advocate for the development, training and exchange of knowledge and skills of the judiciary of the European Union. The organisation makes a significant contribution to reinforcing a European area of justice, by developing and sharing a common European judicial culture.
EJTN, an international non-profit association governed by Belgian law, brings together 36 judicial training institutions from all EU Member States, 5 Associate Members and 17 observers. It develops and implements training and exchange activities for members of the European judiciary. These activities cover both initial and continuous training and are delivered in close cooperation with its Members and Partners. EJTN’s fields of interest include EU civil, criminal, administrative law, human rights, linguistics and societal training issues.

Communication Activities: • EJTN designs and executes training and exchange initiatives for members of the European judiciary, rooted in EU legislation, and advocates for the promotion of the EU acquis;
• EJTN extends invitations to representatives from the European Commission for its annual General Assembly, Directors' Conference, and Training Need Assessment meetings. On occasion, these representatives may also be invited to participate in EJTN Steering Committee sessions;
• EJTN organises a yearly activity entitled Applying for and implementing EU funded projects: presentation of the EC call for proposals on judicial training to present the European Commission’s current call for proposals on judicial training and introduce the application process in the presence of members of the Directorate General for Justice;
• EJTN consistently updates its website (www.ejtn.eu) and social media channels to keep the public informed about the Network's daily activities;
• EJTN has released and keeps releasing numerous publications:
The annual report. The publication provides information on EJTN’s internal organisation, governance, and members. It is sent to all EJTN’s Members, Associate Members, Observers, Partners and key stakeholders;
The catalogue of training activities, a thorough and comprehensive publication that outlines and provides details on all activities offered by EJTN; including trainings promoting different EU acts, directives and strategies, such as Children’s rights, Domestic Violence, Whistle-blowers etc.
A pro-active policy of communication, including, the EJTN’s nine judicial training principles, leaflets, newsletters, training handbooks (notably the EJTN Handbook on Judicial Training Methodology in Europe), the Themis Annual Journal and the upcoming Judges@Europe publication, Rule of Law and Good Administration of Justice in the Digital Era.
• EJTN has been implementing special projects:
Western Balkans II Project. It is implemented within the IPA II Multi-country Action Programme 2020 and benefits from the financial support of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR). Its main goal is to support the development of a training programme on EU law at the Montenegrin Centre for Training in Judiciary and State Prosecution (CTJSP) and the Serbian Judicial Academy (JA) and to facilitate participation in EJTN events by judicial professionals from all Western Balkan judiciaries.
The Competition project. EJTN is carrying out a training programme funded by the European Commission under the Single Market Programme with the aim to enhance the awareness of non-competition national enforcers (judiciary and law enforcement staff) in competition matters. The aim of the initiative is to enhance their awareness regarding competition matters through training activities and study visits;
Fisma Project. EJTN in cooperation with Directorate General Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union of the European Commission (DG FISMA) organised a series of webinars on judicial enforcement of EU restrictive measure focusing on civil, administrative and criminal aspects related to the application of sanctions
The Judges@Europe forum. The activity brought together 84 judges from 25 EU Member States. Its aim is to allow participants to explore different rule of law topics of significant importance for judges in the European legal space.
