Mission & Interests
Goals: EUROLAB, the European Federation of National Associations of Measurement, Testing and Analytical laboratories, founded in 1990, represents a network counting over 3000 public and private laboratories and conformity assessment bodies (CABs) throughout Europe and beyond. It is an umbrella structure of national associations of laboratories, European sectorial organisations of laboratories or laboratory practitioners, and international partner or sister institutions.
EUROLAB’s overall objective is to give voice to the opinion of European laboratories on political and technical matters affecting them at the European and international levels; coordinating by interfacing with all European organisations having activities of interest to the laboratory community; providing adequate means for exchange of information and experience among members; promoting cost-effective testing, calibration and measurement services, with accuracy and quality assurance requirements adjusted to the actual needs.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The main focus areas for EUROLAB in the last years were the revision of the Blue Guide, the revision of ISO/IEC 17025, the Consumer Safety and Market Surveillance Package, ESG, and generally all EU legislation related testing, conformity assessment and product safety developments. EUROLAB will continue to closely monitor the developments in the key policy priority areas identified for 2024:
- Regulation Bodies: developments in European legislation on testing, conformity assessment and product safety in the fields: ESG, including sustainability, Green Deal, Corporate Social Responsibility; Food; Medical Devices; Energy
- Metrology and Calibration
- Accreditation and Standardisation
- The Lab of the Future developments, including machine learning, digitalisation, cybersecurity, robotisation, AI, blockchain, etc
Communication Activities: EUROLAB was involved in the ECVET-LAB Project (Erasmus+) which aimed to contribute to the implementation and validation of the non-formal train-ing on environmental best practices for environmental testing laboratory technicians. Specifically, by applying methodologies and practices that conserve natural resources, improves the resources efficiency and protects those working in laboratories from chemical or biological risks.
Additionally, EUROLAB organised various events around the Lab of the future topic, microplastics, best practices for sustainable laboratories, etc., and has published quarterly Newsletter, several Special Briefings and technical CookBooks (short documents on quality issues to help laboratories comply with ISO/IEC 17025), which are available on the EUROLAB website: https://www.eurolab.org/. EUROLAB is also partnering with key stakeholders in building up projects, organising key events & webinars, joint publication on the key identified priorities, relevant for the laboratory community.
