In this regard, the main legislative proposals or policies are the Digital Services Act (adopted- delegated acts are work in progress); the Defence of Democracy Package (as far as we know currently in drafting phase); the General Data Protection Regulation when it comes to access to data for research purposes (adopted, assessment done after two years of activities); The Strengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation, which is a self-regulatory tool nudged by the European Commission, and which was signed in June 2022.; Proposal for a Regulation for a European Media Freedom Act (ongoing legislative process). Finally, considering the impact that AI has in disinformation, also the AI act may have an impact on the debate.
