Mission & Interests

Goals: The European Decontamination Institute was born in 2013 as an organization that promotes the proper decontamination of hazardous waste. EDI brings together national associations, engineering companies, contractors and suppliers of decontamination equipment. The main goal of the Institute is to promote safe removal of hazardous waste and establish proper standards for this activity. Other objectives of the EDI are the following: To look after, promote and protect the interests of the decontamination industry in Europe To set and to promote standards on decontamination techniques To be involved in and have an impact on health and safety legislation and regulation To be involved in improving the legislation concerning the removal and depositing of hazardous waste To exchange information on techniques, working methods and training for operators and specialist To maintain contacts with similar organizations in other parts of the world (Asia, America, Australia…)

Main EU Legislative Proposals: All topics regarding the decontamination industry which can help to set standards for decontamination of hazardous substances and to improve the legislation concerning the identification and removal of hazardous substances. Some of the policies targeted are: - Guidelines for the waste audits before demolition and renovation works of buildings - EU Directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to asbestos at work
