Goals: The European Carton Makers Association is the official organisation for Folding Carton Producing Companies, National Carton Associations and Suppliers for the folding carton industry throughout Europe. The association is constituted to serve the interest of the European folding carton industry in general and the international co-operation within the industry in the widest sense.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: *Food Safety. ECMA has developed a Food Safety Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in line with Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.
* Security features in the context of the evaluation of the Tobacco Products Directive and labelling/ consumer information in the General Pharmaceutical Legislation Revision.
* Promote and defend paper information leaflets from the threat of electronic product information (ePI) via MLPS (Medical Leaflets = Patient Safety).
Communication Activities: Each year ECMA organises a congress in the month of September in a European city.

A working group of several members of the association is working along with the 2 persons employed by ECMA.
ECMA is assisted by Brussels based agency Dentons Global Advisors, Logos and Verbum Scomm. In 2023/2024 this work focuses on understanding legislative requirements for security features on packaging and ensuring that the packaging sector’s views on this issue are understood.
ECMA is a founding member of Fibre Packaging Europe.
