Mission & Interests

Goals: European Carbon Farmers is on the mission of building a farmer-centric bridge between agriculture and climate policy. Strategically, we are using "carbon farming" as a language to build this bridge and operationally we believe the key change needed to happen in order to realise this mission is to see the CAP (the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU) structure change from action-based to result-based payments centred on climate measures. We see the key acceleration and synthesising role in this transition for the private agricultural carbon payment programs and connecting those with the CAP. At the international level, the European Carbon Farmers strongly supports the UNFCCC COP process and the UN Food Systems Summit.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: We have a singular goal: having each European farmer farming in harmony with nature. To realise this vision, we believe the CAP (the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU) structure needs to change from action-based to result-based payments centred on climate measures. Furthermore, we see the key acceleration and synthesising role in this transition for the private agricultural carbon payment programs and connecting those with the CAP.
Communication Activities: The European Carbon Farmers participates in numerous activities - online and off-line - that promote carbon farming among farmers, agricultural extension agents and policymakers. Our flagship document in this regard is the proposal and an appeal for the creation of the Working Group on Climate Neutral and Nature Positive Agriculture presented to - among others - the Polish President and Prime Minister in December 2021. This document serves as a synthesis of our work up to December 2021, as well as a blueprint for what - we believe - needs to happen in order for our vision, which is identical to the ambitions of the Green Deal, to be realised. The Working Group proposal is available under this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s5gehxqqbs1lyiq/20211221_European%20Carbon%20Farmers%20-%20Rolnictwo%20Neutralne%20Klimatycznie%20-%20propozycja%20powo%C5%82ania%20Grupy%20Roboczej_podpisane.pdf?dl=0 in Polish and under this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/umfx6i9wk0phrzb/20211221_European%20Carbon%20Farmers%20-%20Climate%20Neutral%20Agriculture%20-%20proposal%20of%20establishing%20Working%20Group%20on%20Net%20Zero%20and%20Nature%20Positive%20Agriculture.pdf?dl=0 in English. We are also one of the Partners in the MIDAS Project, which received co-funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement N° 101082070. In June 2023, in our effort to promote the EU Soil Mission in Poland, we organized a Parliamentary Dialogue on Soil Health.
