Mission & Interests
Goals: The European Banking Industry Committee (EBIC) aims to allow the representatives of the European banking industry to:
- exchange views and information on matters of common interest;
- ensure a representative and coordinated industry view on issues of common interest throughout the process of drafting, adopting, implementing and enforcing EU-financial legislation;
- provide advice to the European institutions on initiatives, both at legislative and implementing levels.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: AML, Banking Supervisory Practices, Consumer Credit, Integration, Mortgage Credit. EBIC is building bridges amongst stakeholders in the financial industry as it is composed of seven continental EU banking associations/federations. This platform aims to facilitate a comprehensive consultation by the relevant EU institutions and to ensure a representative industry view.
Communication Activities: EBIC is issuing position papers and replies to consultations which are shared with other interested stakeholders and uploaded to the EBIC website.

Info Members: The percentages suggested are not fully relevant to EBIC, as EBIC is a de facto association and has no own funds or staff. It relies on its members resources. Each person involved spends no more than 5% of their time. There are 5 chairs and 5 secretariats of the 5 EBIC working groups (10 people) as well as the plenary chair (1 person), the vice chair (1 person), and secretariat (2 people + 2 IT/support staff) on a biennial, rotating basis. The activities which are undertaken as EBIC leverage on the activities undertaken individually by each EBIC member association, which allows for more concentrated time and resources. The EBIC plenary meet on average twice per year and the WGs on an ad hoc basis.
