Mission & Interests

Goals: Purpose of the association: To facilitate contacts and collaboration between university-level schools of pharmacy; To support member faculties in their efforts to develop resources, effective methods of learning and teaching; To develop harmonized European quality standards for the structure and outcomes of pharmacy education; To facilitate exchanges for both students and faculty members; To promote and support the cause of Pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences and to collaborate with European authorities; To promote joint research projects between scientists in academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry; To keep its members informed of developments in and around the EU and to facilitate the establishment of a common European Area of Higher Pharmacy Education and Research; To maintain cohesion of its members by organizing regular meetings at European level and by publishing newsletters; To cooperate with other national or international organizations in relevant fields.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications. The main EU initiatives, policies and legislative files currently followed by EAFP include developments in professional qualification recognition (e.g. the emergence of the common training framework tool, the European Professional Card, and developments associated with the Professional Qualifications Directive). EAFP contributes to the development of harmonized European quality standards for the structure and outcomes of pharmacy education and to implement modifications arising from scientific and technological progress in the biomedical sciences and from new organizational structures in the health care system.
Communication Activities: Ongoing: Publication of position papers (available at the EAFP website) May 2019: Prof. Azzopardi (EAFP president) had a meeting and discussion with Martin Seychell, Deputy Director General DG Santé, European Commission on the Changing landscape in healthcare. June 2021: Contribution from EAFP in the workshop "EU minimum harmonised training for pharmacists – time for an update?", organised in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. 2020-2021: Contribution to the EU minimum harmonised training for pharmacists data compilation by participating in Research (Spark Legal Network): MAPPING AND ASSESSMENT OF DEVELOPMENTS FOR ONE OF THE SECTORAL PROFESSIONS UNDER DIRECTIVE 2005/36/EC – PHARMACISTS – Lot 2 (No 817/PP/GRO/IMA/19/1131/10885)
