Mission & Interests
Goals: Europe Must Act (EMA) is a European social movement formed by local and national chapters and a central European team. Its three key goals are the following:
To unite communities across Europe to welcome refugees and asylum seekers through relocation
To ensure dignified reception conditions and alternatives to camps in Greece and along Europe’s external borders
To secure a fair and humane European policy on asylum and migration
Europe Must Act acts in accordance with its core principles:
We are non-violent.
We are not affiliated with any political ideology.
We are based on autonomy and decentralization.
We are volunteers.
We avoid shaming and blaming.
Throughout its campaigning and advocacy work at local, national, and European level, Europe Must Act is committed to amplifying the voices of people with lived migratory experience and connect them with decision-makers who will decide on those policies that affect people on the move.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: Europe Must Act’s advocacy and lobbying work at the European level focusses on voluntary solidarity within the EU's New Pact on Asylum (2024). We, as local citizens, lobby politicians to uphold the fundamental rights and freedoms of people on the move.
Communication Activities: EMA and its activists and chapters across Europe have engaged in a variety of diverse actions aimed at both raising awareness about the current situation as well as influencing local, national and European decision-making processes. EMA’s latest campaign is focused on raising awareness among local authorities of the opportunities represented by migration and the existing tools for cities to relocate people on the move from border areas to their territories. The goal is to increase the number of town and cities who are part of the International Alliance of Safe Harbours, a European network of welcoming cities. Other actions include conferences, debates and internal trainings.
