Mission & Interests

Goals: EUROFEU represents the fire protection supply industry of Europe for over 40 years. EUROFEU is organised in five Sections: Fire Fighting Vehicles, Fixed Extinguishing Installations, Portable Fire Extinguishers, Sprinklers and Firefighting Agents. EUROFEU’s experts contribute to standards writing in CEN and ISO. EUROFEU partners with key organizations’ such as Comité Européen des Assurances and OSPAR with the objective of improving the members’ quality products and services. Fire protection the premise for the safety and wealth of Europe’s industry and people. Firefighting chemicals ensure these objectives but as well are subject to the EU’s Chemical Legislation. Given their long shelf life on duty (>10 y) it is crucial to have access to legislative trends influencing the use of chemicals. EUROFEU contributes technical expertise and insight of fire protection to help improving applicability and seamless implementation of regulations on chemicals.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: The EU institutions we are working with are ECHA and the Commission. Fields of interest are the European chemical legislation/chemical policies (Green Deal, Chemical Sustainable Strategy, Recycling, restrictions on chemicals, REACH, CLP). Our activities were/are: Participation in Partner Expert Group (PEG) on Guidance on the Application of the CLP criteria: PBT/vPvB and PMT/vPvM and ED HH and ED ENV; Participation in Partner Expert Group (PEG) on Guidance to Annex VIII to CLP on poison centre information and formulation management under Annex VIII; Participation and contribution to the meetings of RAC and SEAC on (EU)2017/1000; Participation and contribution to the meetings of RAC and SEAC on restriction for PFHxA (pending); Participation and contribution to the meetings of RAC and SEAC on regulation projects F-PFAS (PFAS in firefighting foams) and U-PFAS (universal PFAS restriction); RMOA on Fluorochemicals, Surfactants, organic solvents, soluble polymers (thickeners and others), stabilizers, preservatives, salts; Workshop related to the implementation of Commission Regulation 542/2017 amending Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures by adding an Annex on harmonised information relating to emergency health response (Implementation of Annex VIII to CLP); EU Service Directive
