Mission & Interests

Goals: The EC ERIC Regulation No 723/2009 on the Community legal Framework for a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) provides a legal instrument for facilitating the establishment and operation of European research infrastructures. Its implementation gives rise to a number of common specific policy, regulatory and administrative questions at European and national level. In 2017 the existing ERICs (now 28) formed the ERIC Forum in order to further strengthen the coordination among ERICs and interact effectively with the EC to achieve the full implementation of the ERIC regulation. The ERIC Forum’s aim is to advance operations of ERICs and to strategically contribute to the development of ERIC related policies, identify common challenges, collectively develop responses to these challenges, contribute to the further development of the ERIC Regulation, ESFRI framework and European and international research context, and foster the visibility, impact and sustainability of ERICs.

The ERIC Forum is also actively engaged in the analysis and full implementation of the ERIC Regulation, improving the awareness and understanding of the ERIC concepts at national level. Research Infrastructures, and ERICs in particular, are essential stakeholders in the European Research Area, participating in the definition and development of the ERA policy and actions. The ERIC Forum acts as a trusted honest broker, and the ERIC Forum chair is at this moment representing Research Infrastructures in the ERA Forum. Moreover, the ERIC Forum helps defining the EC Framework Programme, since the ERICs are often beneficiaries of these calls.
Communication Activities: The ERIC Forum communicates its activities, and those of the ERIC members, internally and externally. The next major event is the ERIC Forum Annual Meeting (February 27-28, 2024 in Brussels). The ERIC Forum website includes many Position Papers and Policy Briefs developed during the EC H2020 ERIC Forum project. These are also announced in social networks (X (Twitter), LinkedIn). ERIC Forum participates actively in international conferences like the International Coference for Research Infrastructures (ICRI) (2024 in Brisbane Australia).
