Mission & Interests
Goals: Equality Now is an international human rights organisation working for the protection and promotion of the rights of women and girls around the world. Our main programme areas focus on securing legal equality and work to end sexual violence, harmful practices and sex trafficking. The Europe and Eurasia office works within the region, partnering with local, national and regional groups to secure protection, in accordance with international and regional human rights standards including the Istanbul Convention, for women and girls against violence and discrimination.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: 9. Equality Now is currently focused on ensuring justice for survivors’/victims, particularly of sexual violence, working for a global approach to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) and sexual exploitation as well as supporting the EU in its ratification of the Istanbul Convention as well as work being led generally by the FEMM Committee of the European Parliament.
Communication Activities: In January 2019 Equality Now published its report Roadblock To Justice: How The Law Fails Survivors Of Sexual Violence In Eurasia which focuses on laws and practices on sexual violence in the fifteen countries of the former Soviet Union. We have since been advocating with those countries, including recommending compliance with international human rights standards and with those of the Council of Europe's Convention on preventing and combatting violence against women and domestic violence.
Expert Groups: Equality Now is a member of the EU Civil Society Platform against Trafficking in Human Beings convened by the office of the EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator.
In January 2022, Equality Now was awarded a three-year grant by the European Commission to Strengthen the role of civil society and build sustainable cooperation in promoting gender equality in Uzbekistan.
