Mission & Interests

Goals: emotion3D is a deep tech company specialized on touch-less analysis of humans using 2D and 3D imaging technologies. Based on a unique core technology framework, emotion3D offers intelligent software modules for image-based analysis in automotive in-cabin environments. This analysis enables a comprehensive understanding of humans inside vehicles and serves as the basic building block for intelligent safety (e.g. personalized airbag deployment), user experience and automation functions required in current and future generations of vehicles world-wide.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: As emotion3D, a pioneer in imaging technologies for in-cabin human analysis, we hold a vested interest in Regulation (EC) No 78/2009, otherwise known as the Pedestrian Safety Regulation, for a multitude of reasons: Preventive Safety Measures: Our technology is designed to augment safety within automotive in-cabin environments. Our primary objective is to implement early warning systems through analysing driver behaviours and promptly identifying potential hazards. By potentially preventing accidents and alerting drivers to the presence of pedestrians or cyclists, our technology aligns with the broader objectives of the Pedestrian Safety Regulation. Legislative Compliance: We are continuously seeking ways to ensure our technology not only adheres to current legislation but is also well-positioned for future regulatory developments. If we can evidence that emotion3D's technology positively contributes to vehicular safety performance, we can demonstrate its value to manufacturers. Hence, we see ourselves as active participants in the legislative discourse, working alongside other interest stakeholders and policy-makers to shape future standards, such as those outlined in Regulation (EC) No 78/2009. Enhancement of Existing Safety Systems: Many modern vehicles feature advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) that already include safety measures such as pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Our technology can have complementary effects that amplify the capabilities of these systems, providing a nuanced understanding of the in-cabin environment and driver behaviours. This could lead to quicker, more accurate vehicular responses to potential hazards, aligning with the safety objectives of the EU. Anticipatory Strategy for Regulatory Evolution: The current focus of the Pedestrian Safety Regulation is primarily on the physical design of vehicles. However, we foresee an extension of the regulation's scope to incorporate in-cabin monitoring systems like ours. We actively engage in dialogues with policy makers, industry partners, and stakeholders to discuss the potential evolution of the regulatory landscape. Our understanding and active participation in discussions around this regulation help us align our technological offerings with safety objectives, regulatory compliance, and the strategic goals of automotive manufacturers and EU road safety authorities. In this process, we strive to keep track of, engage in and possibly influence policy-making to highlight the benefits of advanced in-cabin monitoring systems for road safety.
Communication Activities: The activities took place within the SMART-RCS Project (Grant agreement ID: 971619) funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. On April 22nd ,2021, the consortium published a project announcement press release via Cision / PR Newswire (English) and APA (German). Following the press release, countless news agencies and automotive magazines published articles about the Smart-RCS project: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/veoneer-emotion3d-and-avl-develop-personalized-restraint-control-technology--a-new-level-of-automotive-safety-301274552.html .
