Our aim is on one hand to increase the participation an visibility of Roma women to all spheres of economic and social life, and on the other hand, we aim to do this using mainly grass roots tools. Through our activities we aim to: ✓ Advocate for programs that address Roma women's issues ✓ Work with national coalition on intersectionality ✓ Introduce gender perspective in all programs designed for Roma ✓ Become a "watch dog NGO" demanding that images of Roma women must be respectfully represented, and defending their image in the public opinion.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: According to our strategy our objectives are: combating violence against women, sexual and reproductive rights and grassroots work. We act on an intersectional model as we acknowledge our multiple identities, non-hierarchy between them and oppression systems that surrounds us. Since E-Romnja was established one of the main strategies was to connect our work with different movements (ngo’s, groups etc) in an intersectional way at local, national international level. In time we managed to contribute to shaping the feminist discourse and agenda by bringing more roma women’s voices, diversity of experiences and a narrative on roma women’s movements. We believe than one of the biggest contributions is shaping our work on on our multiple identities as ethnics, gender, sexual etc. But since it is impossible for E-Romnja and for me to address all our dimensions due to many reasons including time, expertise, insufficient resources both financial and human i decided to act in different networks, coalition, informal groups where our solidarity and input can be of great contribution. We are seeking through our activities to: ✓ Improve policies and measures undertaken in the fields of the sexual and reproductive rights, gender based violence, health, justice, or any other field that could bring safety and protection (such as LGBT+, force evictions) ✓ Build local movements of roma women to increase participation, engagement and have access to recourses, services etc ✓ Introduce gender perspective in all programs designed for Roma through participating at consultation processes at nationa/international level ✓ Become a "watch dog NGO" demanding that images of Roma women must be respectfully represented, and defending their image in the public opinion by building strategic litigation cases based on roma women’s right’s violated ✓ Advocate for programs that address Roma women's issues at local/national/international level through consultation, programs and campaigns ✓ Contribute and reshape the narrative around roma women’s lives, experiences and interests by building spaces for women, SORA model of intervention, engaging in networks and alliances to make our stories more visible Through our alliances we also aim to create a bridge between national and local level as experiences/needs/interests can differ based on geographical space, ethnic population, economic development of the region and investments in civil society but still needs to be visible on the public agenda.
Communication Activities: In the last 2 years we addressed the romnja mothers, adults or minors who went through the experience of motherhood from planning to accessing services or sexual and reproductive rights. We focused on the topic within the work with the initiative groups in 3 communities we work, we brought different resources, expertise and information so that roma women are more equiped to face motherhood. We launched a Facebook platform called Daj thay Penja (in romanes means mothers and sisters) where are only roma women as members (biological and non-biological mothers). We launched a podcast where roma women, teenagers, lesbians or trans where invited to share stories (https://dajphen.ro/reproductive-health/pre-and-post-natal-care/ ) , we organised trainings in schools for pupils on sexual education and workshops with boys and men on the same topics. We made a spot video about obstetric violence against roma women in Romania, a series of expositions within the country about how the motherhood looks in our perspective and advocate for more services, free abortion and non-discrimination in the health system. We also started to cooperate with media to publish different materials about racism in health system, with myths about roma women’s maternity. The staff member of E-Romnja was contributing to this material https://www.scena9.ro/article/7-mituri-rasiste-femei-rome In the next period we will focus on two advocacy issues: the situation of teen pregnancies and documenting cases of institutional racism. For that we started advocating for a ministerial working group on adolescence rights to sexual and reproductive rights. We are part of a working group established at the Ministerial level who will address the topic as well. We started to identify cases of institutional racism when accessing health and reproductive rights and sent a petition to national body for antidiscrimination against a roma women who was forced to give birth on the sidewalk in August 2023 after the doctors and nurse refused her medical care. The case it the national news and created a big scandal in the country about the racism in hospitals . We continued to do advocacy work at county and local level to have better services against gender-based violence. As member of the national network for preventing and combating gender-based violence, we took part at the consultation processes for changings within the Romanian legislation towards rape and age of consent. After numerous meetings with different political parties, advocacy and lobby to clarify aspects of the legislation, the Romanian Parliament adopted a new law 218/2023 who introduces for the first time the age of consent for sexual intercourse as 16, gives better definition for rape, sex with a minor and introduces the living forcibly with a partner as crime. In 2023 we organised a street activity on safe to abortion with the collective #Multumescpentruflori. We organised the Romnja Power Month, an event inspired from our romnja sisters in Berlin. During a month we organised different local events, online or offline for a better understanding on intersectionality in work, practice not just theoretical. We also attended Romnja Power Month in Berlin along with 5 member staff to exchange information, stories and work together with romnja from different countries. In August we collectively organised a campaign called A better world for Roma LGBT+ as the Pride organised ignored and misrepresented many roma. As a response we wrote a manifest (here you can read the English version https://e-romnja.ro/en/manifest/ ) which was signed by more than 50 roma LGBT+ and allies around Europe.
