Mission & Interests

Goals: Droit au Droit – Right to Law is an international non-profit and non-governmental organisation, founded in 2004 under Belgian law and based in Brussels, whose aim is to foster the protection and promotion of human rights, democracy and rule of law in the practical implementation of legal practice. DAD objectives are to provide an enhanced institutional and policy capacity for a successful European integration process, especially in the area of justice and home affairs; to promote, support and monitor institutional reform to improve the transparency, fairness, accountability and efficiency of judicial systems by strengthening the rule of law and advancing human rights for all. Our aim is to foster policy development through interdisciplinary dialogue and partnership between public institutions, academia and social actors on key issues that will shape the future legal landscape.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: - Assessing the risk of de-socialisation of suspects and accused in pre-trial proceedings in the EU - Re-socialisation of offenders in the EU: enhancing the role of the civil society and promoting the broader use of alternatives to imprisonment, in particular for specific groups of vulnerable inmates. - Stockholm programme and strengthening the procedural rights of suspects or accused persons and more efficient help to victims of crime - Enhance judicial cooperation and mutual assistance in criminal law (criminal sanctions) - Promoting the fight against racism and xenophobia, homophobia and the protection of persons belonging to minorities - Promoting knowledge and effective enforcement of EU directives aimed at tackling environmental crimes and in particular maritime pollution. - European e-Justice Portal - Fostering the development and use of e-tools and management indicators to improve the quality and efficiency of EU Member States criminal judicial systems. - Supporting human rights defenders, democratic reform and accountability in the MENA Region
