Mission & Interests

Goals: The BVMW is a politically independent association which caters for all commercial branches and professions and represents the interests of small and medium-sized businesses in politics, with administrative authorities, with trade unions and with major companies in Germany. It counts over 30.000 associated SMEs, and – as leader of the “German Alliance of SME confederations”. With more than 300 regional contacts on the ground in Germany, liaison offices in many European capitals and around the world, it organises regional, national, European and international networking during more than 2000 events. The BVMW coordinates expert councils and commissions on all key SME issues with mainly entrepreneurs as members. It publishes monthly newsletters and the two-monthly association print magazine “The Mittelstand.”

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Corporate Sustainable Reporting Directive, Digital Markets Act, Digital Services Act, Artificial Intelligence Act, Due Diligence in international supply chains regulation, Green Deal delegated acts, Free Trade Agreement negotiations, Reviews of trade safeguard measures, etc.

Communication Activities: Min. 2 pages in each monthly "Der Mittelstand" publication, plus regular articles in newsletters and post on social media. Co-organisation of EU and international events, together with European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME, INSME and their member associations or partner organisations in EU and globale levels.

Info Members: The person representing Der Mittelstand.BVMW in Brussels is 50% paid by BVMW and 50% paid by the European Umbrella organisation of SME associations called European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME (registered here under 077142018281-86). Der Mittelstand.BVMW does of course contribute as a member of European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME also to this organisation, but it is not possible to calculate the direct monetary benefit allotted to BVMW from representation costs, events, publications, travel, membership fees, etc. managed, financed and organised together with CEA-PME. The indicated costs under heading 14 represent the annual costs for the 50% position of it's Brussels Head of Office, the costs for an office room in Brussels and an average of annual travel costs of BVMW representatives travelling to Brussels for meetings with EU officials. This does all together not exceed 49.999€. The membership contribution to CEA-PME is of course not included into this calculation, but into that of CEA-PME.
