Mission & Interests
Goals: The Association promotes Data, Big Data and Data-Driven AI Research and Innovation.
Activities:
- developing strategic goals and roadmaps for research, development, innovation and deployment of European AI, Data and Roboticssolutions, and supporting their implementation
- contributing to policy development, education and technology ramificationin the widest possible sense and addressing ethical, legal and societal issues;
- developing pre-standardisation activities and influencing standardization bodies;
- supporting the federation of European experimentation AI, Data and Robotics infrastructures, Digital Innovation Hubsandsimilar infrastructures.
In 2021, BDVA changed the legal name to DAIRO (Data, AI and Robotics aisbl). This new name testifies the ambition of the Association to closely collaborate with other communities in order to jointly engage at the intersection of the key disciplines of Data, AI and Robotics. The association continues using BDVA as brand name

Main EU Legislative Proposals: BDVA is a founder member of Adra, the private association for the AI, Data and Robotics Partnership
BDVA is a private member of the EuroHPC JU
At a private level BDVA has created together with Gaia-X, IDSA and FIWARE the Data Spaces Business Alliance (DSBA)
Policy files: Research and Innovation policies, Partnerships in Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme. Through its strategic research and innovation agendas and other position and discussion papers BDVA provides input to technological and non-technological roadmaps for the adoption of Big Data and AI technologies in multiple sectors and Society. BDVA mainly follows Research, innovation and industrial policies, Digital Decade, Work programmes for Horizon Europe (mainly cluster 4 but not only) and Digital Europe Programme, European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud, Digital Skills.
Legislative files: AI Act, Data Act, Data Governance Act, Standardisation Strategy, Digital Markets Act, Digital Services Act, EHDS.
BDVA is also working very closely to standardisation bodies (CEN-CENELEC JTC21 e.g) trying to connect ecosystem of Standardization-research/Innovation-regulation-adoption
