Mission & Interests
Goals: Cruelty Free Europe is a network of animal protection groups from the EU and its neighbours with a presence at the heart of EU decision-making, working to bring animal testing to an end across Europe. Working with EU bodies and the public, Cruelty Free Europe seeks to ensure that animals used in experiments in Europe are taken seriously on the European political agenda and to campaign for humane modern science and progressive legislation. The power of Cruelty Free Europe lies in combining the expertise and focus of a central team of science and regulatory experts with the national perspective, skills and energy of associate member groups across the countries of Europe.
With a broad geographical spread, associates bring knowledgeable, dedicated national voices to the table, sharing that expertise with others and with the central team. Cruelty Free Europe is inclusive and works in a focused way. The organisation holds an Annual Forum in Brussels.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: All legislation and policies with an impact on animals in laboratories, including, Horizon Europe, REACH, the development of EU chemicals strategy, and the Cosmetics Regulation and Animals in Science legislation as well as the funding of research and development initiatives and the every day work of agencies like ECHA, EFSA and the EMA.
Communication Activities: We campaign to shape all EU legislation related to animals in laboratories and follow closely the implementation of this legislation with a view to a plan to end animal experiments in the European Union with agreed milestones, targets and timetables; ensuring that the bans on animal testing in cosmetics and the sale of animal-tested cosmetics are implemented; reviewing EU funding and support for the development and validation of non-animal testing methods; scrutinising animal tests requested for REACH. We work closely with MEPs - holding regular briefing meetings and providing expert input and advice - and the Commission and in Member States. We produce a quarterly newsletter for MEPs and issue regular press releases on EU animal testing issues. We work as Cruelty Free Europe and through our Associate Members to bring public opinion to the attention of Europe's decision-makers.
