Mission & Interests
Goals: COTEC was established in 1986 with the purpose of co-ordinating the views of the National Associations of Occupational Therapy in Europe. The aim of COTEC is to enable National Associations of Occupational Therapists to work together to develop, harmonise and improve standards of professional practice through a robust educational system, as well as advance the theory of Occupational Therapy throughout Europe to best address the social and health issues affecting the citizens of Europe.
COTEC is the European organization for all Occupational Therapists through their National Associations, with the purpose of ensuring an adequate number of high quality occupational therapy practitioners and services in Europe.
COTEC represents 33 European Occupational Therapy Associations and more than 205,000 Occupational Therapists. COTEC strives to make Occupational Therapy visible, valued, available and accessible to all European citizens.

Main EU Legislative Proposals: COTEC submitted response to the following public consultations: EU4Health 2021-27 Interim evaluation A Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health; European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning – evaluation
COTEC is an official partner of EUPHA and has involved in the European Public Health Week campaigns years 2019-23.
COTEC President is an Executive Committee member of Health First Europe.
COTEC is part of a WHO-EU region consortium of staff working in Mental Health and strives with GAMIAN for more collaboration in the MH field.
COTEC is a core member of the Harnessing Talent Platfrom
COTEC has expert representatives in thematic networks of the European Health Policy Forum on pain, digital health and mental health. COTEC is member of Smart Healthy Age-Friendly Environments thematic network (SHAFE).
Communication Activities: COTEC supports the MEP Alliance for Mental Health, addressing the need for a European Year for Mental Health and participated in the European Public Health week campaign organised by EUPHA.
COTEC Summary of Profession document is published annually. It includes statistical information of occupational therapy and COTEC Member associations as well as information about education and regulation of the profession.
COTEC publishes a Newsletter four times a year for their members and relations (around 40 European associations and many individuals)
