Mission & Interests

Goals: Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann - The Irish Islands Federation was founded in 1984 to advocate on behalf of Islanders at a national and European level. The organization has been very successful at organizing island communities across the country, identifying and addressing issues in partnership with islanders and state agencies including government departments and local authorities. The organisation is a founder member and active participant of The European Small Islands Federation ( http://europeansmallislands.com ) and has successfully run a number of national and European programmes since its foundation including the National Rural Development Programme (2002-2006), Interreg IIIc and New Opportunities for Women Programme. We currently hold the Secretariat and Presidency of ESIN. Main EU Legislative Proposals: Common fisheries policy post 2020 Common agricultural policy post 2020 Clean Energy for EU islands Territorial Cohesion post 2020 Island Enterprise & branding Comhdhail was a partner in a LEADER transnational project between Ireland and Scotland islands Comhdhail is involved with the Clean Energy for EU Islands programme and LEADER

Communication Activities: Slow adventure on Islands (Tourism project) Cherish Project (Entrepreneurship project Frysbee project (blue social growth for young persons) Island produce branding Comhdhail will participated in ESIN 's AGM IN Brussels as well as yearly meetings with a range of officials. and will engage with Irish MEP'S on territorial cohesion to ensure they understand the islands situation before the vote takes place on the policy. Comhdhail/Ireland now hold the Chair and Secretariat for ESIN//European Small Islands Federation and are heavily involved in ESIN work
