Mission & Interests
Goals: The Centre for Justice, Law and Society (CJLS) is a research centre based at the School of Business and Law of the University of East London. The CJLS's main objective is to support and develop scholarly activity, research, and research-led teaching. It focuses on the study of law, institutions, and governance in the context of current societal issues and challenges. It adopts a critical, multidisciplinary perspective and a local, regional and global focus. The CJLS has 18 members and an external advisory board. Members' areas of expertise include EU law relating to borders, immigration and asylum; international refugee law; European, African and international human rights; legal pluralism; Islamic law; gender & feminism; EU competition law and IP; etc.
