Mission & Interests

Goals: Cbamboo is building the operating system for the world's carbon border taxes. We are a climate tech startup that creates software for businesses of all sizes to comply with, manage and optimise their carbon border taxes. We are highly focused on the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) which we see as a pioneering regulation that will transform the way goods are traded around the world. We develop systems for firms to create CBAM-compliant data and share it through their supply chains so as to ensure that their embedded emissions can be accurately recorded by European Commission. In due course we will bring forward additional software elements to help businesses comply with CBAMs in other jurisdictions, such as the UK. We will also develop a suite of analytical tools for CBAM management.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
Communication Activities: We have emailed key decision makers across the relevant EU institutions who are concerned with CBAM, and requested meetings, conversations, and participation in round tables, etc. Through this outreach programme we look to – understand the CBAM policy in as much detail as is available – learn about the motivation of the different interest groups and individuals involved in shaping the evolution of CBAM – feed back to decision makers the practical experience of our customers in respect of CBAM – act as a critical friend to the EU in general, bringing forward points that may be helpful to their thinking and suggesting potential avenues for improvement in CBAM. All of the above will enable us to build an innovative and helpful software platform so that the world's businesses can coordinate their carbon and supply chain data in order to better comply with the CBAM requirements.

Info Members: We have a small team of 3 full time and 2 part time staff as of April 2024. Four of these people are involved in some way in our outreach to the EU institutions. However, the meetings referenced in heading 9 are entirely ad hoc, and they take up below 1% of the time of any member of the team. As per the Guidelines we have rounded these all up to 10%.
