Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: CLGF Caribbean represents the local government community (Councils, Ministries of local government, local government associations and cities) of Jamaica, Bahamas, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Grenada, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. We target all policy development with an impact on the Caribbean. This includes the EU's Development Policy, the Post-Cotonou EU-ACP agreement, as well as sector policies impacting the Local Government, communities, and citizens (eg: Climate Change, Local Economic Development, Women's Empowerment, Infrastructure investment etc).
Communication Activities: - Monitoring and Evaluating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Jamaica and Rwanda (on-going). -Organising Webinars on Local Economic Development (LED) and Trade in the Caribbean, and Healthy Cities - Organising consultations with Local Government Councils and Ministries in the Caribbean to identify development priorities in Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, St Lucia, Bahamas, and Dominica. -Promoting Public Financial Management at Local Government Level in the Caribbean. -Project Management: “Strengthening local government’s role as a partner in development” SGA III between CLGF and EU - Ongoing advocacy with institutional partners including EU delegations in the Caribbean on behalf of Local Government - Regular participation to voice the Caribbean perspective at EU Policy Forum for Development (PFD) meetings for CSOs and Local Government - Hosted Caribbean Local Government Conference “Building Back Better: Local Government Delivering Development In The Caribbean” (2022) -National consultations on Localising the SDGs in Dominica, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago (2016-2018) - National meetings in Dominica, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago featuring demonstration projects by local Councils in advancing the SDGs (2018) - Publication of Case Studies: Localising the SDGs in the Caribbean (2019)

Info Members: We network, advocacte for, share information and conduct research with point persons in the national Local Government Associations (LGA) and with line Ministries in all CARICOM countries with sub-national systems of governance. We are also managing project activities in the Caribbean relating to the EU/CLGF "Strategic Grant Agreement III "2022- 2025 titled "Strengthening Local Government's Role as a Partner in Development" We also function as the Regional point of contact on Local Government matters for with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), and provide project management support to the Caribbean Development Bank for Local Government initiatives
