Eine bedeutende Aufgabe des Unternehmens liegt in der Förderung der Forschung und der Vernetzung, Innovation und dem Wissenstransfer in enger Abstimmung mit ihren Mitgliedern (Universitäten, wissenschaftlichen Institutionen, Fachhochschulen, der öffentlichen Hand sowie Unternehmen). Das Unternehmen übernimmt eine Weiterbildungs- und Qualifizierungsfunktion zur Förderung und Ausbildung von Forschern/innen und unterstützt mit seiner Forschungstätigkeit insbesondere die Ent- und Weiterentwicklung medizinischer, sensor- und nanotechnologiescher Lösungen für die Gesellschaft.
