Mission & Interests

Goals: Mission Statement 1. The Association is committed to safeguard the interests of consumers in Malta in all aspects. The Association shall use all its resources to achieve this aim. Objectives 1. To act as a pressure group and see that legislation beneficial to consumers is enacted and relevant measures are implemented in an active and effective manner. 2. To create consumer awareness with regards to products, services and methods of production which may be supplied both by the private and public sector. 3. To represent consumers in the preparation, formulation and implementation of relevant policies in order to safeguard their interests. 4. To assist consumers in seeking adequate redress and compensation resulting from the purchase of goods and services. 5. To ensure that consumers are offered quality services including product safety, adequate standards and the protection of the environment.

Communication Activities: • Dissemination of consumer information via PR,ACR website,ACR Malta Facebook page, webinars, newsletters of local councils and responds to consumer complaints. • Represented for last 11 years on the organising committee of the MCCAA project competition "Service with a smile" - to encourage an exceptional customer friendly service. • ACR Webinars "Climate Action - Do Consumers Have a Role?" held 4.11.2021. • Webinar entitled ‘Coping with loans and debt’ organized by ACR/MACM held on 27.5.21 • Ms Busuttil and Ms Polidano attended the Environment Resources Authority Consultation sessions and participated in the discussion on Single Use Plastic. Ms Polidano submitted a number of key points to the ERA consultation. • ACR participated in Virtual Conference: Making sustainability an easy choice for EU citizens organised by ECU. Conferences related to ESG, Sustainable Finance, IDD, Pensions both local and European-attended by P Azzopardi ACR has a full time executive committee member as project manager on sustainability; promotes SC by undertaking further research on sustainable consumption, writing articles for the press; Prepars one post/week for ACR FB page re SC; Circulate articles and posts by email to all ACR members and on public service intranet platform; wrote hand-out on SC for secondary school students - circulate through colleges and schools; Arranges and participates on radio and TV programmes to promote SC; To improve the bus service in Malta - set up and circulated a public survey in which more than 1000 participants took part and analysed the survey results, drew up charts and prepared a presentation which was discussed at the CSC October 2022 meeting of MCESD and met with Malta Transport Authority, Malta Public Transport, Minister of Transport, Permanent Secretary for Education and PS for Consumer Affairs to discuss further. ACR Secretary Grace Attard participated in a conference ‘Bridging the Pension Gap’ organised by the Malta Sustainability Forum in its commitment to sustainability. As ESC/CCMI delegate has been appointed member of the CCMI 192 Study Group Strategic autonomy and semiconductors and was member of CCMI 185 Study Group on Updating the new industrial strategy – Impacts on the health industrial ecosystem. She is a member of ANEC Digital Society working group and participated in ANEC discussion on Common Chargers which was presented during the ANEC Digital Society meetings 11.10.22 and 13.10.22. On the 29.9.22 General Secretary was invited by Ben Rizzo to participate in the Business Breakfast on the theme ‘Social Dialogue: Coherence with Our European Counterparts’ with the participation of EESC President Christa Schweng. • ACR General Sec - Member of ANEC on Digital Society and Sustainability Working Group Meetings: follow-up dissemination of EC New Energy Label Information (8.3.21) EESC/Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI). GA re-elected delegate on the EESC/CCMI for 2020-2025. Issues addressed included CCMI 161 Industrial Policy towards 2030; CCMI 170 Artificial Intelligence in the Automative Sector; CCMI/167 The industrial perspective of reconciling climate and energy policies. GA appointed on the Study Group on the CCMI 178 Sustainability of Batteries Opinion and on the CCMI 185 Opinion on Industrial Change in the Health Sector. • ACR Gen Sec participated in a EU Commission Virtual Conference Consumer Agenda Operational Priorities for the year ahead 15.3.21 • Gen Sec participated in a EESC conference on Digital Policy - Transformation towards Society 5.0. • ACR participated in an ECU BIOnTOP Project, a research and innovation project funded under Bio-based Industries - objective of project is to create recyclable and cost competitive packaging solutions that can be mechanically recycled and industrially/home composted. • ACR Gen Sec is VP on Association of Former EESC Members (AFM)- VP drafted a new election procedures.
