Mission & Interests
Goals: ANP is a Portuguese independent non-profit association legally recognized as an ENGO, that works in alignment with the global vision and strategy of WWF. The mission of ANP is the conservation of national biodiversity and forest ecosystems, the protection of marine biodiversity and the promotion of sustainability in fisheries, the conservation of freshwater ecosystems and their water resources. ANP also works on climate change and the promotion of sustainable consumption.
ANP runs projects to meet its conservation goals in each of its six main areas (oceans, freshwater, food, climate&energy, forests, and wildlife), in partnership with farmers, fishers and forest producers, governmental organizations (nature conservation, fisheries management, forest management, etc.; national/regional/municipal levels), and the corporate sector. Through its work, it seeks to influence public policies at the EU and national levels.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: We currently follow these files: Common Fisheries Policy, Common Agriculture Policy, deforestation, restoration law, food systems law, Water Framework Directive, Birds and Habitats Directives, Natura 2000 Network, Marine Strategy Framework Directive, Integrated Maritime Policy, European Green Deal (Biodiversity Strategy, Farm to Fork Strategy, etc.), 8th Environmental Action Plan, MFF, and the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. By following it means we will accompany the legislative processes of these files, from problem definition to impact assessment of implementation.
Communication Activities: ANP liaises with Portuguese MEPs on conservation matters of national relevance, by making its views known to them, and conveying information demonstrating the relevance of our positions and views (factsheets, reports, letters, etc.). We also engage directly with Portuguese MEPs: for example, in April 2020 we initiated formal contacts with Portuguese MEPs to learn about their positions on a green and just economic recovery and the upcoming deforestation public consultation, and conveyed our own set of proposals.
We participate in campaigns (e.g., deforestation law) and occasionally in events targeting MEPs and other legislators.
