Mission & Interests
Goals: F.R.E.E. is a Romanian non-governmental organization that works for improving the well-being of farmed animals by advocating for their rights. F.R.E.E. employs a multifaceted strategy to address the various challenges faced by animals in industrial farming systems. Key to our mission is to raise awareness of the problems they may face, recommending sustainable and safe alternatives that can increase their welfare. Via public campaigns, educational initiatives, and media outreach, we emphasize the latest scientific findings and public initiatives that can improve the lives of these animals. Additionally, we actively collaborate with parliament members, producers, and stakeholders to enhance the welfare standards for farmed animals.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: Presently, F.R.E.E. mainly focuses on the welfare of broiler birds and caged hens. We are part of the 170 non-governmental organizations that support the "End the Cage Age" initiative, supporting the legislation to ban the use of cages for EU-farmed animals. Until now, we have not been outreaching the EU institutions. Nevertheless, we plan on becoming more involved, wishing to know the latest decisions made by the EU institutions.
Communication Activities: We only had national communication activities, including the establishment of two projects that focus on the welfare of caged hens ("România fără Cuști") and broiler chickens ("Pui Conventional"). For these projects, our activities focus on communicating with various companies and producers advocating for the improvement of the birds' welfare conditions. Two years ago, within the "Cage-free Romania" project, we initiated a legislative proposal, but ultimately paused it due to the rigidity of the national context.
In the past, we supported various European citizen initiatives concerning animal rights, such as "Fur Free Europe", "Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics", and "End the Cage Age", by publicly informing the citizens about the initiatives and collecting their signatures.
We have joined Eurogroup for Animals to contribute with the Romanian perspective on matters such as the revision of the European legislation on animal welfare.
Inter-institutional or Unofficial Groupings: Welfare and conservation of animals
