Mission & Interests
Goals: eLiberare is a Romanian organization focused on preventing human trafficking & sexual exploitation. Our goal is to equip people to prevent human trafficking in their own communities.
Our priorities are five-fold:
1. PREVENTION EDUCATION
We decrease the risks of trafficking by making people aware of the issues and empowering them to prevent trafficking in their own communities.
2. CAPACITY BUILDING
We resource and equip people through specialized training sessions, such as seminars for social workers, school teachers, police officers, business owners, church leaders and others.
3. EXTERNAL ASSISTANCE
We come alongside state and private shelters and transition homes that help restore and reintegrate victims and survivors of human trafficking into healthy communities.
4. STRATEGIC ADVOCACY

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: - Directive 2011/36/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 April 2011 on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and protecting its victims
- Directive 2012/29/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2012 establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime
- Council Directive 2004/81/EC of 29 April 2004 on the residence permit issued to third-country nationals who are victims of trafficking in human beings or who have been the subject of an action to facilitate illegal immigration, who cooperate with the competent authorities
- Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2002 concerning the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector (Directive on privacy and electronic communications)
- EU Strategy on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings 2021- 2025

Communication Activities: - On May 10th, 2021 we participated in a debate with Members of the European Parliament organized by Child10. We presented the work we do in Romania and stressed the need to coordinate our efforts in fighting trafficking in persons at the European level.
- On September 26th 2023 we sent feedback for the EU - Call for evidence for an impact assessment - Ares(2021)7683097 - Criminal justice – EU rules on victims’ rights - Revision of the victims’ rights acquis
- On October 20th, 2023 we offered feedback on the EU - Integrated Child Protection Systems Public consultation
- On January 31st, 2024 we provided feedback to OHCHR - Input to the Report of the Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls to the Human Rights Council on Prostitution and Violence against Women and Girls
- In January 2024 we also signed a joint statement to call on policymakers to quickly adopt the extension of the Interim Regulation for the ePrivacy Derogation before the end of the mandate, and to adopt a long-term framework with the proposal for a Regulation to prevent and combat child sexual abuse (CSA Regulation).
