Mission & Interests
Goals: “Ärzte der Welt e.V.” is the German section of the international network Médecins du Monde/Doctors of the World. “Ärzte der Welt” works within the international network that carries out 350 health-care programmes in 74 countries (international and national projects).
International projects: humanitarian aid and long-term engagement
Together with the provision of immediate aid, such as the help given in Haiti or Pakistan, “Ärzte der Welt” supports reconstruction, is engaged in crisis prevention and also provides long-term development cooperation in many countries. Many projects are located in regions that receive hardly any public attention in the outside world.
The aim of our work is always to provide access to health care for people in crisis situations independent of their ethnic, social, religious and political origin - which means that we oppose every form of exclusion.

Communication Activities: Public relations as a whole is regarded as an important pillar in the overall strategy of doctors of the world’s work and is operated both, independently in Germany and jointly in the international network. Some years ago, the public relations department carried out a situation analysis with a strength-weaknesses profile and target groups. Now, annually, together with the network, goals as well as methods for achieving them are defined. We are in contact with our different target and reference groups through various public relations instruments. For example, we organise various events on health policy topics, present the social and political situation in our project countries and promote the interactive dialogue with target groups interested and active in social media. In press releases, we address relevant domestic and global health issues and are actively involved in the dialogue with media representatives. Our annual report and project flyers are print media, which we specifically distribute to interested persons. In high-profile campaigns (which also include exhibitions) and targeted lobbying work, we try to draw attention to health policy issues and to stimulate change that will help to guarantee the human right to health care.
Additionally there is one advocacy officer responsible for our political work, who is closely working together with the national and international project departments as well as with the department of public relations.
