Mission & Interests

Goals: The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) continues to build on the foundations established a decade ago of a world where aquaculture plays a major role in supplying food and social benefits for humanity whilst minimising impacts on the environment through setting the standard for seafood. Our work promotes industry best practice to minimise the environmental and social footprint of commercial aquaculture. To do so, ASC is operating a third party (independent) certification and labelling programme for farmed seafood; including voluntary sustainability standards for various aquaculture species. Through the consumer label it makes available to certified producers and companies, ASC promotes responsibly farmed products in the marketplace. It acts to influence both the supply and the demand for responsibly produced seafood. The positive impact delivered through the ASC programme is demonstrated by the growth in certified farm production and via its Monitoring and Evaluation framework.
