Mission & Interests
Goals: Animal Society is a German not-for-profit organization based in Stuttgart whose mission is to increase the level of protection for animals, primarily farmed animals. Animal Society seeks to reform the treatment of animals in the law. Animal Society does so by raising awareness through public-facing campaigning actions and by continuous dialogue with policy and law makers at local, state, national, and EU levels. Animal Society employs lawful and non-violent means of actions.

Activities
Main EU Legislative Proposals: Animal Society seeks to influence EU laws and policies that affects the treatment of farmed animals, mainly the following policies:
- The EU Green Deal, the Farm-to-Fork Strategy, and the EU Biodiversity Strategy
- The Antimicrobial Action Plan (“AMR Action Plan”)
- The Animal Welfare Strategy
- The EU Agricultural Policy
And thus the following laws:
- The Common Agricultural Policy Regulations
- The EU animal welfare legislation (Directives 98/58, 1999/74, 2007/43, 2008/119, 2008/120 and Regulations 1/2005 and 1099/2009)
- Food legislation as it relates to food information to consumers on the method of production of animal source foods (General Food Law, INCO Regulation, EU Marketing Standards, Claims Regulation, Organic Regulation, and Quality Scheme Regulation) and market authorization for alternatives to conventionally-produced animal source food (Novel Food Regulation)
- Whistleblower protection for animal advocates who conduct on-farm investigations (Whistleblower directive)
- Animal health legislation (Animal Health Law, the Breeding Directive, the Medicated Feed Regulation, Use of Additives in Feedingstuff Regulation, Veterinary Medical Products Regulation)
Communication Activities: Animal Society publishes reports on animal farming. Animal Society additionally produces position papers on the representation of animals in institutions. These publication are available online at: https://animalsociety.de/
Animal Society also organizes public outreach events, such as talks and exhibitions.
Animal Society also spearheaded advocacy campaigns, such as the “Für eine Vertretung von Tieren in der Politik” campaign in Germany to improve the representation of animals in State institutions, and regularly met with stakeholders, the industry, civil society and public administrations.
Starting in November 2021 Animal Society met with Members of the European Parliament as part of the “#EUforAnimals” campaign, a campaign gathering a coalition of European animal advocacy organizations and petitioning the European Commission to appoint a Commissioner for Animal welfare.
In June 2022 Animal Society started a campaign towards banning the killing of day-old chicks and ducklings in all EU-member states together with 17 other organizations from all over Europe.
We also regularly attend meetings and events organized by other civil society organizations’ coalitions, such as MEP4Wildlife, the MEP Interest Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and the Intergroup on Welfare and Conservation of Animals.
In Dezember 2022, Animal Society published a report on ending chick-killing in the European Union and sent it by Emails to the Members of the European Parliament. See: https://animalsociety.de/chick-killing-report/
In January 2023, we attended to a parliamentary event in Brussels to support a EU-Wide Ban of Chick-Killing
In 2023 we launched the Campaign "Act for Animals" . www.actforanimals.eu to urge the European Commission to deliver the proposal of the due Animal Welfare Legislation
