Mission & Interests

Goals: As part of the 2012 Declaration on the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), African heads of states called for innovative solutions to accelerate the delivery of infrastructure on the African continent as part of the African Union's Agenda 2063.In response, and after broad consultation with its stakeholders, the African Development Bank announced the establishment of Africa50 – Project Development and Africa50 – Project Finance, investment vehicles under one umbrella, conceived to be part of the solution to the continent’s infrastructure challenges. The Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa (AGIA) is an African and execution-led solution for an accelerated transition to Net-Zero, with a cohesive and inclusive approach to climate finance, created by Africa50, the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). AGIA will be managed in part by Africa50 and is looking to raise US$ 400m from founding partners such as the EBRD, EIB, AfD.

Activities

Main EU Legislative Proposals: Guidelines II.5, heading 14 b for Palacio and Asociados/Salesas Tres Centro de Estudios to assist on AGIA Legislative initiatives related to the Green Deal or the Global Gateway. The EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation and related taxonomy on green climate investments
Communication Activities: Marketing of AGIA for the targeting funding and to make announcements as a first step at COP28 on commitments. AGIA is a platform that seeks to raise US$400m of blended finance capital to prepare, develop and finance a transformative pipeline of green infrastructure projects in Africa, with the aim to accelerate Africa’s just and equitable transition to Net-Zero. We look to work with the EU Commision and EU International Partnerships on their COP28 pavilion and in 2024 to formally be fundraising.
