Mission & Interests

Goals: The Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) is an independent platform for multistakeholder dialogue, frank debate and strategic analysis, working as a ‘network of networks’ in bringing together citizens and leaders united by a passionate belief in a deeper partnership between Africa and Europe. Since its inception in December 2020, AEF has catalysed cooperation across critical sectors from energy, agri-food and blue economy to health, digital and youth economic inclusion. AEF was co-founded by a leading European thinktank, Friends of Europe, and a leading African Foundation, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, in partnership with the African Climate Foundation (the first African-led strategic grant-maker) and the ONE Campaign (the global movement campaigning to end extreme poverty and preventable disease).

Is Member Of: The Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) is governed by a two-tier Board, comprised of a High-Level Group and an Executive Committee. The High-Level Group is composed of experienced leaders from Africa and Europe and the co-chairs of AEF’s multistakeholder Strategy Groups, and the Executive Committee is composed of representatives of the founding partners of the organisation, that-is-to-say ‘Friends of Europe’ (www.friendsofeurope.org ), Mo Ibrahim Foundation (https://mo.ibrahim.foundation), the African Climate Foundation (https://africanclimatefoundation.org) and the ONE Campaign (https://www.one.org/international).
