Mission & Interests
Goals: The ACP/LDC Sugar Industries Group is formed of representatives of sugar industries (both millers and growers) supplying ACP/LDC tariff free imports listed in Annex 1 to Commission Regulation (EC) No 2015/1550, plus South Africa.
The Terms of Reference for the ACP/LDC Sugar Industries Group include:
= To develop an effective and coherent single voice for all members of the Group;
= To coordinate Group views on EU market management methods and regulations and to be ready as requested to discuss these with the EC in concert with the ACP Ambassadorial Group in Brussels (OACPS);
= To be the focal point for organizing as required the submission of information on supply data directly by members to the European Commission and to participate in meetings with the EC as required;
= To support and advise the Organization of ACP States Secretariat (OACPS) in Brussels on matters related to sugar.

Communication Activities: At a meeting at the High Commission of Jamaica, London, on 1 December 2015, the leaders of the ACP/LDC sugar industries renewed the terms of reference for the Group. The ACP/LDC sugar industries agreed that the group would continue its work in support of the OACPS Working Group on Sugar in Brussels. This was again confirmed in April 2019.

Info Members: The Group is comprised of an Executive Chairman, who receives expenses, and an Executive Committee of around five persons (unpaid). The Executive Committee meets six times a year in person and/or as often as required by Zoom or Teams and email.

Is Member Of: The ACP/LDC Sugar Industries Group potentially represents 18 countries’ sugar industries. These 18 countries are the most significant sugar producers in ACP and LDC countries and are therefore those who have the most at stake in preferential access to the EU27 and UK markets, and they include: Belize, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Fiji, Guyana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, eSwatini, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Our Group produces around 7 million tonnes in total each year, around 4% of global sugar production.
